I really think at those odds McCoy has a shot he led his team in rushing, broke all sorts of records this year becoming the number one guy in Texas and he beat Bradford. His only loss was a come back by Texas Tech on the road and to me he is a great shot with great odds of winning this thing!

Championship Saturday

Saturday December 6th Hawaii +7.5
Cincinnati not only won the Big East last week but they won it without winning and they had to get up for the last game against Syracuse even though they did not need it. Now the go to Hawaii knowing that they have a BCS game? I would not be surprised if they lost this game. This is a vacation and a reward for the great season that Cincinnati had so bet against them.

Saturday December 6th Big 12 Championship Missouri +17
the loss to Kansas was tough for this Missouri team and the, like Oklahoma this week was 17 point favorites. That loss was just what Missouri needed to be able to refocus for the championship game. The win for Oklahoma against Oklahoma St showed Missouri that the Sooner defense can be beat for big points. This game will be much closer than the experts think and the edge is to Missouri and the polls will be buzzing again when this turns into a close finish.

Saturday December 6th SEC Championship Alabama +9.5
this line is ridiculous and an overreaction to a popular Florida team. Florida is a quality team and has played well especially with a great offense. Alabama is undefeated and unlike Florida they are doing it with both offense and defense. I will say it again, Alabama is winning with defense and we know defense wins championships. They are 6-0 ATS after a game when they allowed less than nine points. The disrespectful line was all that they needed to get the bulletin board material they needed to win the championship!

MAC Championship

Buffalo +14.5

we head right to the championship games and start in the MAC. Ball St. is undefeated and it takes a lot of effort to go undefeated in the regular season. Ball St. did this and now will have to focus on this game even though they are not going to be part of the BCS party. Nice letdown spot for the Cardinals. Buffalo is 6-0 ATS as underdogs and plays tough, winning five of six. Now they get a shot at double revenge and a chance to ruin a perfect season.

Florida St +15.5
Florida is going to play Alabama for the SEC championship and that could propel them to the BCS championship game too, but wait don’t they have another game left? Everyone is looking pas the Seminoles game but the Seminoles and this line is way too big. Florida has whipped Florida State in the past four meetings, but the home team is 15-5 in the last 20 battles. So Florida St is at home with nothing to live for but this game, they have revenge and they have a solid defense. Look for the noles to win this game outright and a small play on the moneyline is suggested here!

Saturday November 28th
Tennessee -4.5
The Vols are in a position we like to back teams in as they are coming home off a straight up win as an underdog. This is also a huge game because it is the swan song for Coach Fulmer. Tennessee has covered 12 of 16 versus Kentucky. The Vols, playing their final game under Coach Phillip Fulmer, have won 16 of 17 in their last home game (11-6 ATS). This is a huge win for the Vols and a nice going away present for the coach!

Saturday November 28th
Oklahoma St. +7
If the big 12 have proven anything this year it’s that the conference has some serious talent. Oklahoma St. runs into arguably the hottest team in the country right now and will put out a full effort to tray and knock them out of the #2 spot in the BCS polls. The home team in the "Bedlam Rivalry" is 8-1-1 ATS. Oklahoma State is 16-9-1 ATS against archrival Oklahoma and 10-4-2 ATS in its last 16 home finales. Oklahoma will have to fight to the wire to get this win and so the points will come in handy!

It was a big game against the bearcats and this Pittsburgh team did not show up as they were trounced, although the scoreboard did not show it. They are at home and get to play spoilers over the holiday as a win would keep WV from an outside shot of something great! Some may see this as a stretch taking Pittsburgh here but watch for the upset as they salvage a decent season with a win in this game!

Miami Ohio PK
There may be other games on Friday with bigger names playing but make sure to check this game out. Miami (O) has covered in five of the past six series skirmishes against Ohio at home. The Bobcats are 6-13 SU and 5-14 ATS on the road in November. The Red Hawks are 12-4 SU and 10-5-1 ATS in their past 16 home swan songs. Get ready for the early game on ESPNU and enjoy the fireworks!

Texas A&M is 4-15 ATS Away off bye week and Texas is 28-12 ATS off road conference win. Texas knows that they have to win and that they have to win very big to let voters know they are still a quality club that beat Oklahoma! This is a statement game and they make one against A&M. Revenge is sweet here. Texas has cashed 13 of its last 15 home finales. The Aggies have dropped 24 of 34 as road dogs and the visitor is 2-7-1 in the last 10 meetings.

Big 12 is a mess

The big 12 is the best conference in football this year, but that maybe just the thing that brings it down. The fact that they beat up each other will be the difference in having more than one of them in the spotlight for the crown this year. You can make a case for Texas, Texas Tech, and Oklahoma when it comes to a shot at the championship but the problem is they all beat each other and not one of them stood out above the rest. If you say Oklahoma should be 2 with a huge win over tech last night then Texas fans would have something to say about it. Can you rank OU over Texas even though they lost to them? If you can't then what can you do with Tech after losing to OU even though they beat Texas? It may get even messier with the Championship game to follow!

Illinois -2.5
Surprised to see this line when it came out but we think it’s because Illinois is the better team. They are not having a great season but the style of ball that Northwestern plays is similar to Illinois and plays right into their hands. Illinois is 7-0 ATS Away if they forced one or less turnovers last game and Northwestern is 2-10 ATS off SU win. Look for Illinois to win on the road in blowout fashion!

Saturday November 22nd
Boston College +2
We had them last week +7 and we get them this week +2. The Eagles are in a spot we like as a straight up dog winner in the last game over a big rival in the ACC. Don’t look for a letdown instead look for revenge has Wake as had their way with BC over the years. Boston College is 8-2 ATS off DD win as underdog and Wake Forest is 10-22 ATS as home favorite. Boston College keeps rolling and gets another big win!

Saturday November 22nd
Oklahoma -6.5
In the biggest game of the week we like the Sooners at home to take care of Texas Tech. You get a lower ranked team favored over a higher ranked team and the Sooners looking to make a statement! If they win this game at home it puts them right back in the hunt for the BCS Championship. Oklahoma is 6-0 ATS at home off road game and will be ready for the Red Raiders this week! Unbeaten Texas Tech has lost 11 of its last 15 against the Sooners and come up short in 10 of 15 ATS. Seven of the past nine contests have been decided by 10+ points. Oklahoma has cashed nine straight at home as favorites of less than double digits. The Sooners are also 20-12 ATS in their last 32 home finales. The Sooners get revenge for last year!

NOTE: We did not play on the other big game but we like Michigan plus the points against the Buckeyes!

San Jose St. +2.5

Another home dog is the way to go in this game Friday night as it is the last game of a nice triple header. Fresno State is 0-7 ATS as favorite and San Jose State is 11-3 ATS at home games. The home team is 5-1 ATS in the past six tussles. Fresno St is favored in this one but I think this is the wrong team as San Jose St should be favored in this game by 3 according to our line making. Take the home team in this game!

Georgia Tech / Miami Under 39.5

These are two different teams from a year ago but the one constant is that they know how to play defense. The teams have combined to average just 36 points in the past 13 series scuffles and that gives us just enough wiggle room to back the under in this contest. Trend lovers get another nice one here as Georgia Tech is 18-4 Under on Thursday which may have something to do with preparing for the short week. This is a low scoring affair and the under comes sailing in.

Wednesday Night Football

Central Michigan +7
That is more like it as we get a nice home dog during the week to try and take home some cash! Trend players must be licking their chops over this one:

Central Michigan is 17-2 ATS off road game that says something about this team when coming home. Central Michigan has won six of 11 against Ball State and cashed eight of 11. The Chippewas have covered nine of their last dozen at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. The Cardinals are 1-3 ATS in their last four outings after starting the year with five straight spread wins. Ball St will fall short in this game.

Tuesday Night NCAA

Northern Illinois is a bad team and they are a road favorite which is usually bad news but not in this case. Northern Illinois hasn't lost back-to-back games to Kent State since 1978-79. The Huskies have cashed four of their last five against the Golden Flashes.Kent State has dropped six of its last eight home finales ATS and nine of 12 ATS off a SU win. Kent State is 3-10 ATS off an over and loses this game to start the week off!

Notre Dame may not be the team they have been in the past but it is always a big win when BC beats them and I expect for that to carry over to this week. Boston College is 4-1 ATS as road underdog and Florida State is 2-8 ATS off conference win. The Noles could get dumped in this game if they are not careful because the Eagles defense is playing great and they can make this one worth watching. The visitor has won the past three series battles. Boston College is 14-9-1 ATS on the road in November. The Eagles get a huge win on the road!

Saturday November 15th Stanford +23
Everyone remembers last year when Stanford upset USC in the late going and so USC comes in with revenge so you can look for an easy win and a blowout in this game. Not so fast my friend. USC has not blown out anyone lately and this game is the Super bowl for Stanford. The Cardinal has given the mighty Trojans fits, winning four of nine and cashing six of nine. Take the points and Stanford as they may just surprise yet again this year!

The Bearcats press on against the Big East and show the world they deserve to be in a big bowl game!

Virginia Tech +4
When I saw this line hit four I knew the only way to go was with the Hokies. Virginia Tech is 8-1 ATS in November and Miami is 0-6 ATS as a favorite of 3.5 to 10 points. Virginia Tech has won nine of 13 and cashed 10 of 13 versus Miami. Miami is 2-9 as favorites of between 3 1/2 and 10 points. The Hokies are 10-1 ATS on the road versus an opponent with revenge. VT has started to evolve and this is a must win for them and they always seem to show up on ESPN and they do it again this week! They win straight up against the Canes!

We are going back to the well with another bad team on Wednesday this week; the good news is the Owls are not so good either. The Owls are 2-5 SU and 2-4-1 ATS in seven weekday games. One thing that we make sure we never do is take a team as a road favorite that is a bad club and since Temple has lost 6 of 8 straight up they qualify as a play against. Temple is 1-5 ATS as a road favorite of three or less and fall flat on Wednesday!

Any regular readers? Now that I know I have a few I will make sure to post earlier and make it a priority!! If you do read and stop by regularly please take a minute to reply to this post so I know!!!

here were all of my picks this week, and stop by the NFL forum because that one is updated!!

1. Tuesday November 4th Buffalo -8
Buffalo is red hot and continued to play well off a win last week in prime time and now go home to show the home team how it is done. Miami (OH) is 0-7 ATS if 60+ points were scored last game and Buffalo is 8-1 ATS off a SU win. The home team has cashed in six of the past nine series confrontations. The Bulls will be looking to string together three straight wins for the first time in more than a decade. Get this line now and get on board the Buffalo bandwagon!

2. Wednesday November 5th Akron -4
Toledo had a big win at Michigan this year but it was not enough to keep their head coach around as he will step down and take another role with the organization. He has lost touch with the players and has had trouble getting them up to play an opponent. The Rockets have flopped in 11 of their last 14 road outings ATS. The Zips are 7-4-1 ATS in their last dozen weekday games. We are going to back another home favorite during the weekday and look for the dog trend to bust wide open.

3. Thursday November 6th Utah +2.5
This is a huge game this week for both of these teams and the winner will press on and look to crash the BCS bowl party and put a wrench into the standings. Utah is 39-19 ATS as an underdog and they are at home and that makes all of the difference in this game. Utah is quietly crawling into the national spotlight and the out right win on Thursday will make the game against BYU the big win for all of the marbles!

4. Friday November 7th Nevada +2.5
This low line should tell you something is up. The fact is Fresno will look right past this game and assume they can easily handle Nevada. The Bulldogs have stumbled in nine of their last 11 as home favorites, and they are 0-6 as favorites in the last six. That shows you that they play much better in the role of the underdog. Nevada is 11-1 ATS off an over and has Fresno St. exactly where they want them. Nevada pulls off the upset of the week this Friday!

5. Saturday November 8th Ohio St. -11
Backing road chalk is not par for the course for the super seven and Northwestern has proved that they can be dangerous this year, but the Buckeye’s are chomping to get back on the field after the bad loss to Penn St. Pryor gets a chance to redeem himself and the Buckeye’s roll. Ohio State has won its last three against Northwestern by a combined score of 160-24. The Buckeyes are 11-1 ATS on the road off a SU loss and that is a sign of good coaching. Ohio State is 37-21 ATS as road favorite and Northwestern is 5-16 ATS at home off BB road games. Look for a blowout this weekend by the Buckeye’s.

6. Saturday November 8th Oklahoma St. +3
How many times do you see it? A team comes off a huge win and then comes out the next week and falls flat on their faces. This week the Red Raiders, who we picked last week to win, will fall flat. Oklahoma State is 8-0 ATS this season and that shows just what kind of surprise they have been and if not for a super talented Big 12 they would be the talk of the town. Oklahoma State has cashed three straight meetings and will win in a squeaker!

7. Saturday November 8th Notre Dame +3.5
Boston College has had a history of owning the Irish and upsetting them whenever they play them. BC finally gets respect as a favorite in this week’s game but it will be the Irish that will finally get revenge! The Irish are 11-3 as dogs lately and 7-4 as road short-enders. The Eagles are 2-7 ATS in their past nine home games in November. Off an upset loss where they blew it in the second half, but this week they play strong for the entire game and get the win! Notre Dame is 12-3 ATS as a road underdog of 7 points or less and Boston College is 1-6 ATS after playing 3 straight conference games. The Irish win on the road and finally are on the winning side against BC.

South Florida is 1-6 ATS after gaining 325+ passing yards and Cincinnati is 6-0 ATS off road loss. On a short week the edge goes to the Bearcats. They are 13-5 ATS with short rest and South Florida is 1-4 ATS. They have great home numbers and underdog numbers and they will win on the field this week! Cincinnati has won three of four and covered four straight against South Florida. Pike will be a game time decision but the Bearcats have prepared game plans for Pike or Anderson and will be ready to win this week!

Tuesday nights have been pretty consistent since they started this year and the totals have been going under, but we are sticking with the other consistent trend in week night game’s this year, taking the dog. Marshall is in a good spot here taking on Houston.

Houston is 5-9-1 ATS in the second of back-to-back road games. Marshall has cashed at a 6-2-1 clip in its last nine chances as home dogs. Houston is 0-6 ATS off BB SU wins and fall short of covering the number against Marshall.

Its that time of year when you look for two things, tired teams and home coming. Virginia is off a over time game and the Jackets have homecoming. Georgia Tech has held the upper hand, winning and cashing five of the last six against Virginia at home. In fact, the home team is 13-1 SU and 11-2 ATS in the past 13 series shakedowns. The Yellow Jackets have won 11 straight homecoming games (6-4-1 ATS). Virginia is 1-5 as dogs of more than four points when facing an opponent with revenge. The Yellow jackets get revenge and get a huge win at home!

Saturday October 25th Florida St. -4.5

The Seminoles are back and looking to get revenge against a Virginia Tech team that struggled last week against the Eagles. The Seminoles have plenty of rest for this game since they played early and that extra time will allow them to get revenge for a tough loss last year. The Noles have covered three of four versus the Hokies and won’t be afraid to running it up on the Hokies.

Sunday October 26th UConn -1

The Huskies are off a tough loss to the Scarlet knights and once again are on the outside looking in when it comes to the top 25. They should rebound with a huge win this weekend against the bearcats. The Huskies are 5-0 ATS in the first of back-to-back home games and they have cashed 10 of their last 11 at home versus conference opponents. Connecticut is 8-0 ATS at home off road conference loss and will have an edge up front on the line against the bearcats! Take the Huskies to lead wire to wire!

Saturday October 25th
Anti Consensus play of the week (1-2 ATS On the year)
Tennessee +7.5

Finally the Anti Consensus play of the week got into the winner’s circle! This week we go into the SEC and back the Vols as they face the Crimson Tide this week. The Vols finally put together a full game last week and will be ready this week. Four of the past five struggles have been decided by eight points or less. Alabama has dropped 10 of 13 against Tennessee and could get caught off guard on the road this week.

Air Force has played well at 5-2 on the year but are just 1-2 at home and have a game with Army on deck in a must win for the commanders trophy. They get caught looking ahead and play down to New Mexico in this game, take the points!

NCAA Week 8

1. Thursday October 16th Florida St. -11.5
North Carolina St is a bad team and even though they have a few decent wins they are not even close to being in the same class as the Seminoles. The home team is just 2-6 ATS in the last eight games between these two and it may stay off close but it would end that way. The noles know how to shut out a bad squad as evident by the 4-1 records ATS in the last five against teams with a losing record. Defense wins this game and the Noles roll!

2. Thursday October 16th TCU+1.5
The talk of the town is BYU and how they good go undefeated and have a shot at playing for the title; well it all starts here against TCU. TCU boasts and impressive 6-1 record this year and will have the home crowd on national television to help them win. TCU is 16-3 ATS at home when facing teams with a winning percentage over .600 and the favorite in this series has lost five out of the last seven games. TCU pulls off the upset!

3. Friday October 17th Boise St. -24
We hate to back double digit chalk, but this is the second time we have already done it on the short slate so far this week. Hawaii is not the same team they were last year and it has shown some drubbings they have taken this year, especially when they go to the mainland. Boise St has revenge and will look forward to running it up on the warriors. Boise State is 20-3 as conference home favorites of less than 28 points. Boise St. wins big!

4. Saturday October 18th Maryland +1
Maryland has plenty on the line in this game but first and foremost they have revenge as they have been owned of late by Wake as they have won two straight against Maryland. Maryland has won and covered seven of nine versus and they have to get back to those winning ways. They prevent Wake from winning three straight and beat Wake at home. Maryland is 6-2 ATS as a home dog of 3 points or less and gets the win at home to get revenge.

5. Saturday October 18th Virginia +5
The Cavs get the Heels exactly where they want them at home. Virginia has cashed nine of 10 against North Carolina. The Tar Heels haven't won at Charlottesville since 1981 (0-13 SU, 2-11 ATS). The home team has come away with the money in 17 of the past 22 encounters. The Cavs realize this will be a great win to have on their resume and North Carolina will be in letdown mode after a big come from behind win against the Irish. Take the home dog to have some bite!

6. Saturday October 18th Michigan St. +3.5
With Michigan falling to the cellar of the Big Ten it will be up to the Spartans to keep the Michigan rivalry alive against the Ohio St. Buckeyes. With both teams coming into this game locked at 6-1 overall this game will go along way in who gets a shot at the big bowl game down the road! Ohio St has been miserable against the number this year at 1-5 ATS and they run into a hot Spartan team that is 7-2 ATS after two or more consecutive wins. The Spartans pull the upset in a high scoring affair!

7. Saturday October 18th Anti Consensus play of the week (0-2 ATS On the year) Rutgers PK
The Anti-consensus play has come out of the gate in a bad way losing two straight to include last week in blowout fashion. We still believe the formula merits a selection so we will go one more time with the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers has played bad this year but the linesmakers know they will play great in this game as they have set the line as a Pick and it has already grabbed a ton of public action. It is the highest home dog that the public is betting against and that means a play for us! Rutgers is 10-5 ATS after playing a conference game.

Our first favorite of the week is the best game on the board this week as we back the Sooners to beat Texas. All you have to do in this series is pick the straight up winner it seems like as the straight up winner has prevailed by double-digits in nine of the past 10 games. OU has covered nine straight as neutral favorites of less than double-digits. The Sooners roll this week and make their case as the best team in the country!

October 11th Wisconsin +5
The Badgers lost a heartbreaker losing in the final minutes to the Buckeyes after they seemingly had the game in hand. Now with back to back losses to Michigan and Ohio St after leading both games the Badgers are in a must win spot to get their season back on course. The home team has won and cashed in this series and the badgers play all out and have a shot of winning this game.

Saturday October 11th Florida -4
With the early stumble in the season to ole Miss the Gators need to get a win here and make it convincing. The only problem is they face the tough and tested LSU Tigers. Florida has covered 7 out of 8 at home as 3.5 to 7 point favorites and the home team and they have covered seven out of the last nine against LSU. LSU is 5-11 ATS after winning two or more games straight up and they are just 3-7 ATS vs. team with a winning record. LSU goes to play Florida and will get swamped this week!

Texas A&M +3.5
Last week we nailed our debut in the Anti Consensus play of the week and we are back with another one as the Aggies play host to Kansas St. Kansas State has lost 13 of its last 16 conference road games (5-11 ATS). Texas A&M is 9-3 SU and 8-4 ATS in its last dozen Big Twelve home openers. The one thing about the Aggies is they show up to play every game and they are a killer at home. This is no different this Saturday as they look to pull the upset.

Friday Night Lights

Everyone is talking about BYU going undefeated and they may but they won't cover this big number tonight Utah St can throw the pigskin and they can even come close to making this a game....GO AGGIES

1. Saturday September 27th
Michigan +6.5
Things have to be getting hot for Rich Rodriquez in Michigan. He is not in danger of losing his job but his team has yet to have a very good showing against a quality club and they already lost at home this year. What a big change it would be if the Wolverines could topple the Badgers at home. The Wolverines are 7-3-1 ATS in their last 11 conference openers. They have also covered 11 of 13 as dogs of four points or more. The offense may not be great but the defense has kept them in the games lately. The bye week will do wonders for the Wolverines and we look for the best bet to be an upset win for the home team!

2. Saturday September 27th
Illinois +13.5
This is the best game of the week in the Big Ten as Penn St will finally get tested this week when they face Illinois. Illinois is 8-2 ATS as a road underdog of 10.5 to 14 points and Penn State is 4-12 ATS in conference play. The offense of the fighting Illini will keep this close and the double digits are just too much in this game. This line is off in our estimation about 6 points and look for Penn St to win by six making the line heavily weighed in our favor.

3. Saturday September 27th
Georgia -6.5
Georgia is 5-1 ATS off road a win and showed the world that travel will not bother them as they are in pursuit of the SEC championship. In order to do that they need to stop an impressive Alabama team, which is good news for Bulldog backers. They have won and covered five of the last seven and get the win here. Alabama is 1-5 ATS off BB Overs and will not be able to play as well as they did against the Hogs this week.

4. Saturday September 27th
Virginia Tech +7
The Hokies came from behind to get the win against a tough North Carolina squad and that will give them a boost confidence going into Nebraska. Tyrod Taylor was a blessing at QB because he adds a scrambling threat that will help the Hokies this weekend. Virginia Tech is 9-0 ATS off SU win as road underdog showing that the added confidence helps and Nebraska is 16-34 ATS off home win by 28+ points. The huskers have failed in 13 of the last 20 against the ACC.

5. Saturday September 27th
Mississippi St. +24
This game here is the second of big double digit dogs on tap for the weekend and against we go against one of the biggest powerhouses in college football when we wager against the Tigers of LSU. LSU should look right past this game as they are off a huge come from behind win against Auburn and have Florida on deck in one of the biggest games of the year. The Bulldogs have covered nine of their last dozen on the road and they are 8-2 ATS on the highway with revenge. LSU is 1-12 ATS as conference home favorites of more than two points. Mississippi State is 6-0 ATS Away off ATS loss and LSU is 0-6 ATS off 3+ SU wins. It takes the Tigers awhile to get going this weekend.

6. Thursday September 25th
Oregon St. +24
USC is the best team in the country and before you laugh this pick off, check it out for a minute. The Trojans are in a classic look ahead after playing Ohio St with Oregon on deck for the week after. The Beavers have played well against USC of late. The Trojans lost at Oregon State in their last visit as 10 1/2-point favorites, 33-31. In fact, the home team has won five of the past six meetings and covered in every game. The Beavers are 27-14 ATS at home in conference play. The Trojans have failed to cover five of their last six Pac-10 openers, showing they can get caught napping here.

7. Friday September 26th
UCONN +3.5
Like the spot both of these teams are in. The Cardinals are off a game where they played above expectations while the Huskies played well below them. Connecticut is 22-10 ATS off ATS loss which shows they rebound well and get a chance to show the nation they are still a good club. Louisville has the edge when it comes to winning but not when it comes to covering the number. The Huskies keep it close and have a shot at the win!

Taking these two SEC teams at home. Everyone thinks that the hogs are dead with the slow start, but they have a good coach and a good foundation. The Vols want revenge and will keep it close at home!

I see folks everywhere taking Kansas St as road chalk to take down the Louisville Cardinals at home. (Consensus has 68% on the Cats) Most of the folks that have the cats are either basing it on the offense or the problems that Louisville had with Kentucky in week one. If you look at the loss to Kentucky but ignore the win over Tennessee Tech because they are an inferior opponent than how can you quantify either of the Cats win against North Texas and Montana St.

Because of this lopsided look the books have been able to install the Cats as 4 point road chalks. I think they have made a mistake and think that Louisville should be the four point home chalk.

Louisville struggled against Kentucky because of pressure on the QB Hunter Cantwell, but the Cats employ a three defender front on the DL and try to get through the front line with speed which works much better on turf. The help that small DL by bringing in blitzes which is something that will take away from the defensive backfield and give time for Cantwell to pick them apart in the short game.

Louisville’s defense is much improved especially against the ground game where they have done very well which means that K St. will have to rely on the pass. That is not bad news as Josh Freeman is a great QB for the cats. The problem is Louisville’s defense can make it a one dimensional offense. This will allow them to focus on the passing game and set it up with defense.

The big match up is that offensive line against the defensive front of K St. The Cardinals will out weigh them by about 50 pounds per person giving this offense time to do its thing.

Kansas St is on the road giving points to a BCS team when they have not proven their worth against anyone and give away size on the front line.

Ohio St. +10.5
Do not let last weeks performance against Ohio stop you from backing the Buckeye’s this week. They were clearly looking forward to this game and slept walked through the Ohio game until they needed to turn it on. They will have a healthy Wells back in the lineup and are dying to shut the critics and play a tough team during the season and win. Ohio State has won and 'covered' nine of its last 11 against Pac-10 clubs, including bowl games. The Buckeyes are 12-4 versus non-conference BCS teams during the regular season and 13-3 ATS on the highway in September. This will be one of the best games this year.

2. Saturday September 13th
Rice +7
Vanderbilt has looked really impressive after winning as an underdog on the road and then knocking off a ranked team at home on national television, now its time for the let down. Rice catches Vanderbilt in a conference sandwich as they face Ole Miss next week and will be looking right past Rice. The Commodores home resume is on the shaky side. They are 5-13 as home favorites and 0-10 as none-conference home chalk of less than 17 points.

3. Saturday September 13th
Fresno St. +2
The stinky line of the week belongs to the Badgers as they travel to face the Bulldogs in blistering heat. The Badgers have been killing teams and they are just two point road favorites? Fresno St. is in a great position I like to back taking a team as a home dog after they won outright on the road as an underdog. Not to mention that the badgers will have the Michigan Wolverines next week and may be looking ahead. The heat and the play of the offense of Fresno St. get the win here. Saturday September 13th

4. Friday September 12th
South Florida -3.5
It’s Human nature to look at the results of last week and use them to decide the winners this week. Kansas looked very impressive blowing out their opponent while South Florida had to go to OT to beat Central Florida. The thing is South Florida is better than Kansas. Kansas has lost nine of its last 11 road openers (4-7 ATS). The Jayhawks have also stumbled in 23 of 35 ATS on grass. South Florida has won seven straight non-conference games at Raymond James Stadium and cashed three of four. The Bulls have 'covered' six of eight against ranked teams, with four outright upsets. The Bulls take care of Kansas.

5. Thursday September 11th
North Carolina / Rutgers Under 46
Rutgers looked bad on the offensive side of the ball taking a tough loss to Fresno St at home. North Carolina had an extra week to practice and has a lot to do to make the ACC look good. I look for the defenses to stand up in this game. The focus on both sides of the ball this week is defense and it will show Thursday night under the lights.

6. Saturday September 13th
Virginia Tech -6.5
Georgia Tech upset BC on the road and that alone makes this a successful road trip for them. Now they face the Hokies and they are in a must win attitude after losing early to east Carolina. Georgia Tech still has some holes on defense and they will fade in the second half as the Hokies pull away in this one. Georgia Tech is 1-8 ATS off ATS win and Virginia Tech is 13-4 ATS vs. conference.

7. Notre Dame +2
The coach barked a little too hard this off season when telling boosters “To Hell with Michigan!” He has backed off the statement since saying it but you know this is a game he has to make sure that he wins or it could be his job. Michigan has looked okay on defense but the offense has been bad, look for the Irish to pull it out late. The favorite is 2-10 in the last dozen series showdowns and the dog has barked at a 19-4-1 clip since 1978 in this traditional rivalry.

This gets the stinky line of the week award as this line is very small and is sure to draw plenty of action on the Aggies from Texas A&M. Texas A&M is just 3-12 ATS in September and New Mexico is 25-10 ATS off home loss. New Mexico will be ready for this game and the out right win and upset on Saturday!

Cincinnati +21.5
Saturday September 6th
The Bearcats thought they would have huge question marks on offense especially at Quarterback but those questions may have been answered last week. They completed 74% of the passes and threw for over 300 yards. Cincinnati is 9-1 ATS off non-conference game and 7-1 ATS in the last eight as dogs. Oklahoma is 3-13 ATS as a home favorite of 21.5 to 28 points and better watch out or they will be caught napping in this one.

Boston College -6.5
Saturday September 6th
Life after Matt ryan looks good for the eagles especially on defense where they put up a great performance against Kent last week. BC now returns home to play against the ACC and must prove they can do the same against a better team.BC will depend on Crane to move the offense and the front four to slow down the running game of GT. Georgia Tech is 1-5 ATS off non-conference game and Boston College is 15-5 ATS at home off win by 21+ points

Wake Forest -7.5
Saturday September 6th
Ole miss looked decent in its first game last week but the opponent this week will be much tougher. Ole Miss will have troubles handling the stout defense that Wake has. Wake will also look to jump on the fact that other ACC teams are struggling and they could get a leg up! Ole Miss is 1-9 ATS away 1st two weeks of season and Wake has covered 18 of the last 27 ATS!

Florida -21.5
Saturday September 6th
Dropping this many points is a tough investment to back up, but if anyone can do it: it’s the Gators. They dominate in the swamp and look like they are ready to go after a championship this year. Miami is much improved this year but don’t look for them to be able to muster much of a fight in this one. Miami (FL) is 0-6 ATS Away off SU win and Florida is 6-0 ATS at home vs. non-conference and will roll the canes.

Stanford +3

The Cardinal are looking forward to a breakout season and it starts in week
one at home.Oregon St is 25th in some pre-season polls and they could lose it on
week one when they go to Stanford. I look for Stanford to fight to be bolw
eligible. They return the entire offensive line, are deep at QB and return nine
kids on defense. This first game looks like a good spot to back them. Football
is starting to get respect in Stanford!

football," Harbaugh said. "We have identified leaders on our squad, and these
leaders will be examples for returning players and those who will be joining our

The Buckeye's are being overlooked on defense by all the SEC faithful. The Buckeye's defense was outstanding this year and it will show in a game tonight where they need to play big. Losing last year after the long lay off has helped the buckeyes and they will learn by it and win on the field.

Kansas Jayhawks vs. Virginia Tech Hokies (-3 ½, 53)
Battle of opposites
Thursday’s Orange Bowl will be a battle between one of the best offenses and one of the top defenses in the nation. Kansas has produced the second most points per game this season (44.3), while Virginia Tech is allowing the second fewest (15.5).
“Something is going to give,” Virginia Tech linebacker Xavier Adibi told the Kansas City Star. “That’s the way you have to look at it. That is gonna be an exciting part of this whole game. They have an excellent offense, and we have an excellent defense. It’s going to come down to who executes better.”
In the regular season, getting the job done was not a problem for either team. The Jayhawks finished 11-1, while the Hokies were 11-2. One thing that could separate the sides is experience.
Virginia Tech has made as many bowl trips in the last ten years as Kansas has made in all 117 seasons of its football program. This is the Hokies’ fifth BCS bowl matchup in 12 years, but they are not taking their rivals lightly.
"I don't think it'll be a factor at all," VT offensive lineman Duane Brown told The Associated Press. "I think Kansas, not being in this position before, it makes them a little more excited, anticipating that day. I'm sure they're preparing as hard as they can. We've got to match that. Being too comfortable can get you in trouble."
Bettors have to decide whether the Jayhawks’ high-powered offense (490.7 yards per game) or the Hokies’ stingy defense (293.3) will win out. They can certainly find food for thought in Kansas’ ATS record this season. The team beat the number in all but one of its eleven games offering a spread.
One-two punch
Junior Hokies quarterback Sean Glennon started poorly this season and his understudy Taylor Tyrod struggled with injuries and inconsistency. To get the best out of their patchy offense, Virginia Tech employed a two-quarterback system.
Glennon is a traditional drop-back passer. Taylor – a freshman – is more of a running QB. Their differences made them suited to splitting time, but as Glennon told reporters this week, that didn’t guarantee the plan’s success.
“If either me or Tyrod took the route where we said, ‘This is B.S., I should be the guy out there,’ that could lead to kind of rooting against him when he’s in there,” he told the Kansas City Star.
“That’s not going to help the team win. The quarterback is a reflection of leadership and attitude. If the guy in charge of the huddle had that attitude, it’d be easy to self-destruct.” Instead, the VT offense went on to play its best football of the season after the decision.
The Hokies dominated Florida State and Miami, then beat rival Virginia on the road to make the ACC title game. In that contest, VT produced one of its best offensive performances of the season in a 30-16 win over Boston College.
The Jayhawks, meanwhile, are hopeful that facing two totally different quarterbacks will make life easier for the Kansas defense.
“It’d be hard to go against one that does both,” KU linebacker Joe Mortensen said. “When Taylor comes in, he likes to run the ball. When Glennon is in, he hardly ever runs. We know what to expect when they both come in the game.”
Glennon has thrown for 1,636 yards and 11 TDs this season, while Taylor has put up 916 yards and five TDs.
Talib will return punts
Kansas cornerback Aqib Talib has been practicing punt returns all season and Jayhawks coach Mark Mangino has finally decided to give him a chance.
Talib will return punts against Virginia Tech mainly because of a lack of production from regular return specialist Anthony Webb – who was averaging less than a yard per return.
“It’s out of necessity,” Mangino told reporters this week. “Talib is a playmaker, a dependable guy. He’ll do a great job. We’re blocking people, but we’re not returning the ball.”
Talib has denied that he is using the Orange Bowl as an opportunity for him to showcase his talents to NFL scouts. “No, man, I use these extra games for my team!” he told the Star. “That’s what we’re here for. I couldn’t care less about pro scouts right now.”
He has eight receptions for 182 yards and four touchdowns this season.
Ore out for first quarter
Virginia Tech will be without its leading rusher for the opening quarter of the Orange Bowl. Associate head coach Billy Hite confirmed last week that running back Brandon Ore has been suspended for the first quarter of Thursday’s game for showing up late to practice on Dec. 21.
“I talked with coach (Frank) Beamer on Friday, and I recommended that we suspend Branden for a quarter,” Hite told the Roanoke Times. “I’m not putting up with that kind of stuff.
“In order for us to win ballgames, we can’t have guys showing up at practice whenever they want to. Everybody else made it to practice on time, so there’s no excuse for Branden not making it, too.”
Ore leads the Hokies with 876 yards on the ground and eight rushing touchdowns. He will be replaced for the opening quarter by sophomore Lewis Kenny Jr., who has 183 yards and four TDs.
Ore ran for 1,137 yards and 16 touchdowns last season and was named a first-team All-ACC performer.

They are ball hawkers and are quick to the ball and should stack nicely and force the Ducks with blitzes. South Florida has a ball control offense led by the running game and that will keep this at a low scoring pace.

Fresno is underrated and Coach Hill always has them playing well in bowl games. GT does not want to go to Boise and will get caught napping here.

IU is making waves in the Big Ten and they will for years to come. They may not win this game but look for them to keep it close. This team will dictate this game and the season to Terry Hoeppner and will show up with more emtion and win this game.

Michigan St / Boston College

I love this game and circled it when the lines were first announced. These teams are stacked on the offensive side of the ball and you are sure to see some fireworks. Matt Ryan will be displaying his ability for all of the scouts for the NFL and passing will be first on the list at BC, but don’t sell short the Spartan offense. They averaged over 34 points a game and they have talent at wide out and QB as well as a two headed attack in the backfield. Michigan St had some academic issues and five players will not be suiting up for the big game, but the spots on offense they left void can be filled. They did lose a stud on defense but that helps for my situation that I will play in this game.

Oregon St is upset with the placement in this bowl and will get caught napping.

All of the talk surround this game is how UCLA is going to get trounced. BYU has revenge and UCLA is in a state of flux but look closer. BYU does not like this game and is not looking forward to playing it and this is the perfect spot for the upset. BYU has played in this game three straight years and feel like they should have gotten a better bowl in a better opponent. Because of this they have had a negative approach to preparing for this game and will bet bitten by a UCLA team looking to prove their worth.

If D-Mac and the Hogs want to salvage a mediocre season a win against LSU will go a long way! The Razorbacks are 4-1 SU & ATS in their L5 games and would like nothing better than to spoil their rivals’ title hopes. LSU is 0-5-1 ATS in its L6 SEC games. Arkansas is 14-4 ATS off a combined score of 70+ points and LSU is 7-21 ATS at home in November. The duo of Darren McFadden and Felix Jones leads the SEC in rushing and has made life uncomfortable for LSU the last two seasons, as the Tigers have pulled out narrow victories. For the second straight week, the Hokies of Virginia Tech will be featured on ESPN’s weekly Thursday telecast. If we learned anything by watching last week’s 14-10 loss to Boston College, it’s that playing 58 minutes of quality football won’t get it done. Especially against a rested and favored conference foe that comes in off back-to-back wins and is playing at home. That foe happens to be Georgia Tech, who looks to hand the Hokies its second consecutive Thursday defeat. The big question here is how will Virginia Tech respond after such a crushing defeat?

The answer from the oddsmakers is “not very well,” as the Hokies were installed as a 1.5 point dog. The public seems to agree, having bet the home team up to -2.5 in the first College Football game of November. By now, you know the story. Up 10-0, the Virginia Tech defense completely collapsed last week, allowing 2nd ranked Boston College to score twice in the game’s final two minutes to steal a game the Eagles had no business winning. The loss dropped Frank Beamer’s squad to 15-3 all-time on Thursday Nights. Interestingly, all three losses have come at the hands of BC. After BC scored the first time with 2:11 to play, the Eagles recovered an onside kick and won the game on Matt Ryan's 24-yard TD pass to Andre Callender with 11 seconds to go, stunning the Hokies. Sean Glennon threw an eight-yard pass to Eddie Royal for the lone - and controversial - TD for Virginia Tech (6-2, 3-1 ACC Coastal), which had won five consecutive contests since getting crushed at Louisiana State on September 8, 48-7. Glennon, who started for the first time since the loss to LSU because freshman Tyrod Taylor was injured, completed 15-of-25 passes for 149 yards without an interception. One bright spot for Virginia Tech here is that they are 7-3 in their last 10 November road games. They are also on a 12-2 run against the number in ACC road games. Last year, Virginia Tech lost to Georgia Tech, 38-27, despite 14 more first downs, running 28 more plays and pair of 100-yard games from its receiving corps.

These teams have met three times since VT joined the ACC, with the Hokies winning the first two meetings. None of the games have been close with the average margin of victory at 23 PPG. Georgia Tech (5-3, 2-3 Coastal) has not played since a 34-10 home victory over Army on October 20. In the win, the Yellow Jackets ran up 292 rushing yards. The Yellow Jackets, who have won back-to-back games since dropping three of their previous four, lost star tailback Tashard Choice to a right knee injury in the contest. He is unlikely to play Thursday. Both squads rank in the top 15 in the nation in rushing defense, so this one figures to come down to the passing games. The total is currently at 40.5.

Virginia Tech came within two minutes of upsetting No. 2 Boston College last week before Matt Ryan produced some late lightning. The Hokies will be looking for redemption and revenge when they travel to Georgia Tech for their second straight Thursday night encounter.

Virginia Tech had outscored its first four opponents last season 138-23 when it faced the Jackets at home as 9 1/2-point favorites. Georgia Tech struck early and often, jumping out to a 21-0 lead in the first 11 minutes, en route to a 39-27 upset victory.
The Jackets haven't played since a costly home victory on Oct. 20 over Army, 34-10. Leading rusher Tashard Choice and speedster Rashuan Grant were both hurt in the win over the Cadets and won't play against the Hokies.
That puts a lot of pressure on Jonathan Dwyer and Jamaal Evans, who will see the second best rush defense Georgia Tech has faced all season. The Eagles limited Tech to 63 rushing yards on Sept. 15 at Bobby Dodd Stadium en route to a 24-10 victory. Virginia Tech is ninth in the country against the run, allowing less than 90 yards per game.
Dwyer will assume the role of featured back. He has toted the ball must 10 times in the last four weeks, but he did take over when Choice exited with an injury against Virginia to gain 75 yards in 15 carries with a touchdown. Dwyer also erupted for 138 yards and a touchdown in the Jackets blowout win over outmanned Samford
Georgia Tech is 13th in the country, averaging 219 yards rushing per game, though 2/3 of those yards typically come from Choice and Grant. The Jackets have run the ball 61 percent of the time, but sophomore quarterback Taylor Bennett may have to step up if they expect to whip the Hokies.
Bennett has struggled in his first full season as a starter, completing just 51.4 percent of his passes for 1,337 yards and two touchdowns, while being picked off on three occasions. He could be in for a rough night against a stiff Virginia Tech defense that leads the ACC in sacks with 29.
Coach Frank Beamer hopes that redshirt freshman Tyrod Taylor is ready to return to action after missing last week's game with a high ankle sprain. Taylor, 5-0 as a starter, has much more mobility than Sean Glennon, a major asset against Georgia Tech. The Jackets are averaging 3.6 sacks per game, fourth in the nation.
Taylor has averaged 148 yards per game while Glennon is strictly a pocket passer and would likely be a sitting duck against Georgia Tech's fierce pass rush. Somehow the Hokies have managed to win six of eight games despite yielding 29 sacks.
The Jackets put up about 28 points per game against the Hokies 26. However, Georgia Tech has averaged almost 100 yards more offense per game.
Virginia Tech is on a 12-2 spread run on the Atlantic Coast Conference road. The Hokies have 'covered' 10 of their last dozen on the road overall and 15 of 21 versus ACC opponents. They have cashed nine of their last 11 as underdogs while the Jackets have failed at a 12-5-1 clip as favorites.

Georgia Tech has been on the low side in 17 of its last 21 Thursday tests. The Jackets have also ducked 'under' in 12 of 15 at home after winning three of their last four games.
Most offshore books opened Georgia Tech as a 1 1/2-point favorite, with the 'total' set at 42.

Ohio State hasn’t lost a regular season football game in two years. Saturday night, they not only face their toughest test of the season to date, but the team that dealt them that last regular season loss. Three-point home underdog Penn State comes in having won three straight and would love nothing more than to repeat their 2005 17-10 win over the Buckeyes here in Happy Valley. To do so, the Nittany Lions must find a way to overcome the nation’s top-ranked defense.

History is on their side, however, as the home team is on a 9-0 ATS run in this series. With two easy wins already in ’07, Joe Pa’s club is on an 8-3 ATS run at home in Big Ten play. Last week, out on the road, things were more difficult in a 36-31 win over Indiana. Anthony Morelli threw two touchdowns against just one interception and Rodney Kinlaw iced the game with a five-yard TD run with just over four minutes to play for Penn State, which trailed by eight points midway through the second quarter. Ohio State, meanwhile, remained perfect on the year with a 24-17 home win over Michigan State last weekend. Chris "Beanie" Wells rushed for a career-high 221 yards and a touchdown for the Buckeyes, who did just enough to hang on after opening a 24-0 third-quarter lead. Todd Boeckman tossed two touchdowns but threw an interception that was returned for a score and lost a fumble that went for another in the third quarter.

Last year, OSU returned a pair of interceptions for touchdowns in the final 2:31 for a 28-6 win.

"So in the event that he has to play more (against Northwestern) it will be a big change."

Who says crime doesn't pay? South Florida has stolen enough recruits away from longtime powerhouses Florida, Florida State and Miami to soar to the No. 2 spot in the initial BCS rankings.

Coach Jim Leavitt's Bulls are looking to become the fastest program in Division 1-A history to play for a national championship. However, Rutgers could dash USF's historical run Thursday when the Big East rivals clash in front of a raucous crowd in Piscataway.
The Bulls' rise in some ways mirrors the rise of the Scarlet Knight's program. Rutgers was a Big East doormat for years before emerging on the national scene in 2006 by winning 11 of 13 games, including a Texas Bowl win over Kansas State.

USF, who moved to Division 1-A in 2001, has overcome every challenge scattered in its past thus far, but further tests await. The first comes Thursday against a Scarlet Knights team that will be looking to avoid losing three straight at home for the first time since 2003.
The game matches the 11th-best offense in the land against the 11th-ranked defense; Rutgers is averaging 489.7 yards a game, while South Florida is allowing an average of 284.3.
This Garden State showdown is as big a deal for the Scarlet Knights, who fell out of the Top-25 after back-to-back losses to Maryland and Cincinnati, as it is for USF.

Rutgers is going to have to run effectively to keep Bulls quarterback Jim Grothe on the sidelines. Last season, Ray Rice gained 202 yards on 35 carries in a 22-10 victory against the Bulls. However, USF has gone 14 games since without allowing a runner to crack triple-digits.
Rice is not accumulating rushing yardage at the same pace he did last season, but he still has 818 yards rushing, only 81 fewer than he had after six games in 2006. He also has 17 receptions for 175 yards and is a ferocious pass blocker.
The Scarlet Knights defense will focus on containing Grothe, an elusive sophomore who leads the Bulls with 346 yards rushing.
The key to the game could boil down to the personal battle between Rutgers offensive tackle Pedro Sosa and USF defensive end George Selvie. Sosa, a fifth-year senior and three-year starter will be look to stop Selvie from harassing junior quarterback Mike Teel.
Selvie has been unstoppable in the Bulls' first six games, amassing 11.5 sacks and 21.5 tackles for loss, school records in both categories.
USF won at Auburn on Sept. 8 as 7-point dogs, 26-23, proving it can thrive in a hostile environment. Conversely, Rutgers has failed to prove it can defend its home turf. The Scarlet Knights had won 13 of 17 at home and cashed six of nine until this season, when they dropped back-to-back decisions to Maryland and Cincinnati.
The Bulls are hoping lightning won't strike twice. Louisville came to Rutgers Stadium ranked No. 3 in the country last season on a Thursday night before a national television audience and left on the short end of a 28-25 score.
The Scarlet Knights have thrived against elite teams recently, cashing 12 of 14 and outscoring them by more than 10 points per game. They have also cashed 29 of their last 45 as underdogs. South Florida has 'covered' seven of its last 10 as favorites and six of its last eight against conference foes.

The Seminoles and the demon Deacons face each other tonight on ESPN in the lone game in college football. This game is being highlighted by folks because of the revenge that Florida St. would have after losing 30-0 last year to the Deacons. Keep this in mind, if the same team won 30-0 just a year ago they may be very confident against that team and they are home on national television. If you like the revenge angles, then you’re probably siding with Florida State. However, be aware that Bobby Bowden’s team is just 3-8 ATS in that role recently. Earlier this year, they failed at Clemson, losing outright 24-18.

The Deacons had a lack luster performance against Duke letting them get the back door cover last week but it was most likely because they were looking ahead to this one against Florida St. The Deacons thrive in the home dog role and are 10-5 ATS in the last 15 as home pups.

Both of these defenses are solid and I look for them to shine tonight. Defensive coordinator Mickey Andrews defense is trying to carry this club still in search of an offensive identity. Florida State yields only 15.6 points a game, which in 9th in the country. They have been abundantly proficient in stopping the run, holding opponents to 2.6 yards per carry compared to regular average of 3.8. Opposing passers are gaining just 5.5 yards per pass attempt, placing the ‘Noles 14th in this category. The Deacons defense has forced opponents to slowly move down the field to score. Teams gain just three yards per carry versus Wake Forest, whose strategy is to force the opposition put together 10 or more play drives without making mistakes to beat them.

Stanford pulls the upset!!!

LOS ANGELES -- Led by a backup quarterback, Stanford pulled off a stunner.

Tavita Pritchard threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Mark Bradford on a fourth-and-goal with 49 seconds remaining Saturday night, giving the 40-point underdog Cardinal a 24-23 victory over No. 1 Southern California.

The Cardinal (2-4, 1-3 Pac-10) moved 45 yards in 11 plays for the winning touchdown after John David Booty threw the third of his four interceptions.

A leaping Bradford caught the ball over cornerback Mozique McCurtis in the corner of the end zone, leaving the crowd of 85,125 at the Los Angeles Coliseum in stunned silence.

In the days leading up to the game, first-year Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh stuck to his preseason assessment that USC might be the greatest college football team ever. In the end, the Trojans weren't the best team in the Coliseum field.

The Trojans will drop in the rankings this week after losing to a team that was playing its first road game of the season and had been outscored 141-51 in previous Pac-10 action.

USC's 35-game winning streak at the Coliseum is done. The Trojans hadn't lost at home since Stanford beat them 21-16 on Sept. 29, 2001 in the first year of the Pete Carroll era.

Pritchard, a sophomore from Tacoma, Wash., filling in for the injured T.C. Ostrander, completed 11-of-30 for 149 yards and the winning TD in his first college start. The numbers weren't great, but he was awfully good when it counted, leading Stanford to 17 fourth-quarter points.

The trick for this game is to figure out which team from both sides is going to show up. Utah has looked brilliant in stomping UCLA and then will look disappointing to lesser teams and the same can be said could be said for Louisville.

The strength of Louisville is the pass but Utah is 9th in the country against the pass, but that may be because they are so bad against the run (95th). The question for Louisville is what defense will show up. The undisciplined nature of this defense has them allowing 275.6 YPG at 8.2 yards per attempt (108th ranking) which Utah has the tools to take advantage of. The Utes are 14-4 ATS in road games when playing against a good team (Win Pct. 60% to 75%).Those seeking a quality parlay in Friday night action should be aware Utah is 15-4 UNDER in road games in non-conference games.
The Cardinals got back on track against another non-conference opponent, NC State, last week with a 29-10 win and cover as nine-point road chalk. It was Louisville’s first ATS win of the season and the team now stands at 3-2 SU & 1-3 ATS, with an average point margin of 50.0-32.2. While the offensive output was expected, the struggles on defense have been dramatic. However, having given up just 10 points last week, perhaps that unit has found its groove.
These schools have not met since 1998, however, new Cardinals Coach Steve Kragthorpe lost to Utah in last year’s Armed Forces Bowl, 25-13, as Tulsa’s head man.

The Utes boast a 44-6 win against UCLA, but also a 27-0 loss to UNLV. They are 2-3 SU & 1-4 ATS overall. Typically a strong play as an underdog, Utah is 3-1 SU & 4-0 ATS when getting more than a TD under HC Whittingham.

Utah is a perfect 5-0 all-time against current Big East members, including a 2 for 2 mark against Louisville.
Louisville is a whopping 67-37 ATS when they score 28 or more points over that time frame. Over the last two seasons Louisville is 6-0 'over' the 'total' when they gain 500 or more total yards and has gone 'over' 36 of the last 54 games when scoring at least 28 points.
This season is no different for Utah, as the Utes have a tendency to start slow, especially against the spread. The Utes are 4-14 ATS in the first half of the season the last three years.
Quarterback Brian Brohm and the Louisville offense will be Utah's toughest test all thus far and most likely the rest of the season. Brohm leads the Big East in passing yards (1,948), touchdowns (16) and is third in passer rating (170.37). The six-foot-four quarterback will be a Top-3 pick in the upcoming NFL draft, but he could struggle more than people think against Utah. The Utes' secondary has held teams to an average of 151.6 yards per game.
Brohm will get the Big East's leading receiver Harry Douglas back from an ankle injury. Douglas didn't play last week versus NC State, yet he still leads the conference with 679 receiving yards and is tied for the most receiving touchdowns with 5.

Southern Miss will dominate this game, I hate to take two favorites in back to back games, but a good friend of mine once said that if you take bad teams you can expect bad things, and the 20 points look tempting, but Rice is that bad.

If Rice is going to compete in conference they will need All-America wide receiver Jarett Dillard, who was on the sidelines for most of the Texas game with a strained left hamstring. Quarterback Chase Clement has been under heavy pressure all season, since the opposing team has no fear of a running game that is averaging 88 yards per game at 2.4 yards per carry. The Rice pass defense would scare most owls away, as they have given up an average of 412.3 YPG the last three contests, yielding 53 PPG in the process. The Owls are 3-13 ATS in road games after allowing 325 or more passing yards in their last game.
Southern Mississippi has a short week of preparation after being bounced 38-16 at Boise State last Thursday. The Golden Eagles will try go back to work in conference play off recent important win over East Carolina in attempt to win the East Division. Senior quarterback Jeremy Young was the weak link in the offense in prior years, yet this season has stepped up his game, meaning USM is better equipped to play in higher scoring games than in the past. Coach Jeff Bower in his 17th season in Hattiesburg will always want to run the ball effectively and has running back Damion Fletcher to do so. Fletcher is averaging five yards a carry on a team gaining 172 yards per game on the ground in 41 attempts. That figure is less impressive when considering the teams they have played have allowed 188 YPG on the ground. Young will be looking towards his primary outlet is Chris Johnson, who has 21 pass catches this season.
The defense has contained weak offensive teams like Rice and been taken apart by clubs better equipped to move the ball. When facing teams like Tennessee-Martin and East Carolina, they held them to under 300 total yards offense. While on the other hand Boise State and Tennessee both surpassed the 470 total yards mark. The Golden Eagles are 19-5 ATS after a loss by 17 or more points

I would be remiss if I did not mention Taylor Bradford and the tragedy that unfolded in the last several days. My prayers go out to everyone involved especially his family, the death of such a young man no matter what the circumstance is unfortunate.

There will be stickers with Bradford's number 93 printed on them handed out around the stadium and available in First Tennessee Tiger Town. In addition, there will be a giant card located in Tiger Town for fans to sign that will presented to Bradford's family

When it comes to the game the line jumped from 1.5 to up and over 3 in some places and one look at consensus will tell you why.

Too things stuck out to me, the team wants to stay together during this tragedy, for each other, for the family, for the team. This strikes me as a positive when it comes to tonight and when asked how to pay tribute to Bradford and they had countless ways to do and as a team they all wanted to play. I am not buying the tired from playing in a bunch of games in a limited time frame because they VOTED to play tonight, they WANT to play tonight’s game.

The herd cannot stop this team on the rush and are pathetic con the road. They are 2-11 ATS in the last 13 road games and average giving up 6.0 yards per carry. The defense is even better for Memphis when it comes to pure numbers.

Memphis is 9-2 ATS in C-USA home lid-lifters, averaging 412 yards of total offense. The defense has offered little help giving up 32 points a game and 414 YPG. Of course that seems like a bargain compared to Marshall, who has rolled over in allowing 41.7 PPG and 447 YPG. It is far from a thundering herd for Marshall, who is10-26-1 ATS mark on the conference road.

After the last game against Cincinnati even Marshall’s head coach new they were in trouble. "There were a few gutsy individual performances out there," Marshall coach Mark Snyder said. "But as a whole, I think we're a very poorly coached football team right now." To be fair the Herd has four starters gone on defense, however it has been turnovers and penalties that have placed the defense in the hole and the false starts and holding penalties stalling the offense.
Even worse for the Thundering Herd is the fact they’ve failed to cover the spread in eight of their last nine road games, all of which came as underdogs. In C-USA play, they’ve gone just 2-6 ATS off campus, with the average loss coming by 20 PPG and the average win coming by just 4 PPG. The Marshall run defense has been porous. Incredibly, they have already allowed 1052 yards on the ground this season. Therefore, the Memphis RB tandem of T.J. Pitts and Joseph Doss should have a productive evening.

The home side has won and covered in each of the two previous meetings between the schools, with the average win coming by 19 points. Last year, Memphis posted a season high 469 total yards, but lost 41-27 due to four costly turnovers, which resulted in 14 Marshall points.
Penalties and turnovers are against this team and momentum is too. Revenge and emotion will win out in this one.

Big Win last night with an easy winner in Boise St. here is tonight’s info and selection:

Tonight West Virginia takes on South Florida in a prime time televised knockdown drag down for both teams. This game looks tempting to take the home dog but I am going to go the other way on this one. WV has revenge for a loss last year and in the post game speech after a win against East Carolina the coach talked about this game, which means they have been looking forward to it.

The Mountaineers are favored by a touchdown and come off four consecutive double-digit wins. They average 47.3 PPG and are on a 13-4 ATS run as road chalk. West Virginia also has the nation's No. 2 rushing offense at 357 yards per game and is led by Steve Slaton (125.5), whose next TD run will have him a school-record 43 in his career. Yet that vaunted ground game of Slaton and QB Pat White was held in check by the South Florida defense last season, as they combined for a stunning 60 yards on the ground in a 24-19 loss as three-touchdown favorites.

Boise State bounced back from road loss to Washington with a 24-14 win at home against Wyoming. The Broncos do not appear to have the firepower of recent vintage, scoring just 17 points per game against better competition. Coach Chris Peterson understands his team is making a transition and is leaning heavily on running Ian Johnson, while Taylor Tharp grows into quarterback position. Johnson has been the focus of the opposition’s attention, as he is averaging less than 100 yards per game. Collectively, the Broncos are still running the ball for 199 yards a game, though it should be noted they are doing so against teams allowing 208 PG.

Thursday’s ESPN match-up has Boise State as 10.5-point favorites at Sportsbook.com with a total of 49.5. The Broncos are 4-2 against the spread off two non-covers in a row and is 17-3 ATS when not favored by more than 28 points at Bronco Stadium.

Navy has gotten used to ruling the roost among the service academies. The Midshipmen have won and 'covered' four straight against Air Force and prevailed in seven of their last eight against Army.
Rookie Falcons coach Troy Calhoun looks to buck that trend when he takes his team to Annapolis this Saturday. Air Force lost its final four games in 2006, but it has thrived under Calhoun, winning their first three games this season prior to last Saturday's visit to BYU.
Paul Johnson has put the Middies back on the college football map the past four seasons, posting a 35-15 mark and leading his team to four straight bowl games. However, Navy has struggled this season, losing its last pair and failing to cash three straight before hosting Duke last Saturday.

They are only 3-7 as double-digit favorites.

MISS ST at SOUTH CAROLINA
Mississippi State is 6-0-1 ATS on the highway lately. The Bulldogs have cashed four straight on the road in revenge mode. South Carolina has won and 'covered' the last four series encounters. The Gamecocks are caught in a sandwich, coming off last week's battle with LSU and with Kentucky on tap next. USC has cashed six of its last seven as favorites but it is 8-15-1 ATS at Williams-Bryce Stadium against conference foes.

TEMPLE at ARMY
Army has failed in five of its last six as favorites and dropped five straight ATS decisions at home. The Cadets are 3-17 as favorites of more than seven points.

BUFFALO at BALL ST
Ball State has 'covered' four straight at home versus an opponent with revenge. Buffalo has cashed seven of its last 10 on the road. The Cardinals are 4-1 as favorites and 11-6-1 ATS when facing MAC opposition. They have also clicked in six of seven as favorites coming off back-to-back SU losses.

NIU at CMU
Northern Illinois has won nine straight with Central Michigan (8-1 ATS). The Chippewas have 'covered' six straight and nine of their last 11 at home and 11 of their last 14 as favorites. CMU is also 11-2 ATS at home off a non-conference game. The Huskies have flopped in seven of their past 10 conference tests ATS.

MICHIGAN at NORTHWESTERN
Michigan has won seven of eight against Northwestern and cashed three of four. The Wolverines are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games on the road and 9-3 ATS versus conference foes away from home. The Wildcats have cashed five of six as home dogs of less than 10 points with revenge.

SYRACUSE at MIAMI (O)
Syracuse had cashed 16 of 20 outside the Big East prior to dropping its first three this year. Miami (O) has dropped five of six ATS at home and lost six in a row SU.

Alabama's Nick Saban faces his former offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher, who is now Florida State's OC. The Tide and the Seminoles will be meeting for the first time since 1974.

Mississippi is 10-2 as road dogs of more than nine points with revenge. The Rebels are 6-11 ATS on the road. Georgia is just 11-18-1 as favorites.

Auburn's seven-game road winning streak could be in jeopardy. The Tigers have cashed three straight against Florida, but lost three in a row at Gainesville. Auburn is 4-0 as dogs and 8-4 as road pups. The Gators are 8-14-1 versus SEC foes at home. They have 'covered' six of eight versus quality teams at home, though the Tigers boast the same spread record versus quality teams on the road.

UCLA at OREGON ST
UCLA has won and cashed four straight against Oregon State. The Bruins are 8-2 as dogs when facing an opponent with revenge.

PENN ST at ILLINOIS
Penn State has come away with the cash in its last four visits to Illinois and it has won seven of the past eight series meetings. The Illini have barked in seven of their last 11 as home underdogs.

MICHIGAN ST at WISCONSIN
Wisconsin has a 4-2 ATS edge in the last six series scrapes. Michigan State is 3-6-1 as dogs and 9-15 ATS versus conference competition on the road. The Spartans have failed to cash 11 of 17 against quality-teams on the highway.

IOWA ST at NEBRASKA
Nebraska is 8-2 ATS in its last 10 clashes against Iowa State and it has cashed five straight in Lincoln. The Cyclones flunked six of eight conference tests last season ATS and are 9-15 ATS of late on the Big-12 road. The Huskers are 14-9-1 against conference foes at home. They have failed in four of five ATS at home when facing an opponent with revenge.

KANSAS ST at TEXAS
Texas has struggled against Kansas State, dropping four of five spread decisions, including two in a row at Austin. The Longhorns lost to the Wildcats last year as 16-point road favorites, 45-42. Kansas State is 4-11 ATS on the road and 3-6 as road dogs. The Wildcats have also come up short in nine of 12 on the highway when facing a conference opponent.

UNLV at NEVADA
This traditional rivalry has some striking contrasts. UNLV has dropped 15 of its last 18 spread decisions on the road while Nevada has cashed 14 of 17 at home and 15 of 16 as favorites. The Rebels have dropped three of their last four ATS in Reno. They are 1-7 ATS after Utah and 1-8 ATS when playing the first of back-to-back road games.

UTEP at SMU
SMU has clicked in eight of its last dozen in Dallas. UTEP has cashed seven of nine as dogs, but failed in nine of 11 as conference road short-enders and in 11 of 16 ATS versus conference rivals.

LSU at TULANE
LSU may show some mercy on Tulane after playing South Carolina last week and with Florida up next. The Tigers are 9-0-1 ATS versus non-conference foes and they have cashed eight straight as non-conference favorites of more than 24 points. The Green Wave is 4-16 as dogs, 2-10 ATS at home and 3-9 as dogs under the Superdome.

COLORADO ST at TCU
TCU has outscored Colorado State 88-20 the past two seasons. The Horned Frogs have 'covered' nine of 11 at home and nine of 10 at Fort Worth off back-to-back road games. However, TCU has failed at a 7-1 clip in its fourth game of the season.

Oklahoma is searching far and wide for another offense that can keep up with its 61.3 points and 565.3 yards per game. Quite frankly, there isn't one out there, but it's safe to say that Tulsa will give it a shot on Friday night.
Tulsa's 559 yards per game is fourth in the nation just behind Oklahoma, but the Golden Hurricane's 45 points per game is still 16-points shy of the Sooners. The scoreboard at Shelly Stadium in Tulsa will no doubt have its work cut out for this in-state showdown. Whichever team punts first may very well receive its first loss of the year.
This may be bad news for Tulsa as Oklahoma is equally as good on defense as it is on offense. The No. 4 Sooners have outscored their three opponents 184-26 en route to a 3-0 record to open the season. All three of those games were in Norman making this Friday night game OU's first road test and it comes on a short week to prepare.
Typically this would be a struggle for a freshman quarterback, but Oklahoma passer Sam Bradford has proven that he's not a typical freshman. Through three games, the Sooner slinger has a 219.51 passer rating and a completion percentage of 79.7. He has notched 11 touchdowns to only one interception, with five of those TDs coming in Oklahoma's clash versus perennial defensive power Miami (Fl).
It certainly helps Bradford having All-American candidates at all the skill positions. Freshman running back DeMarco Murray only made the rich, richer. He already has 251 rushing yards and six touchdowns to go along with fellow running back Allen Patrick's 160 yards and one touchdown. These two will make life difficult for a Golden Hurricane defense that has allowed an average of 184.5 rushing yards over their first two games.
Oklahoma is not only 3-0 SU, but also undefeated ATS. In fact, so far it seems that there isn't a line the oddsmakers can post that the Sooners can't cover. Oklahoma covered more than a 40-point spread against both North Texas and Utah State and in Week 2 covered an 11-point spread by 27 points against Miami.

Obviously the Sooners' talented offense has played a huge part in OU's early success, but it's tough for teams to cover a spread when they can't even score. Oklahoma's D ranks second in the nation giving up only 8.7 points per game and a measly 179.7 yards. These impressive stats have come against poor offensive units, so Tulsa's offense should be a good litmus test.
QB Paul Smith has led the Golden Hurricane to a 2-0 SU and ATS mark. The senior is coming off one of his best games to date, having thrown for 454 yards and five scores in a 55-47 win over BYU. Tulsa closed as a 7-point home underdog, yet on the shoulders of Smith, the Hurricane got the outright win.
These teams have met twice over the past six seasons with the most recent being in September 2005. Smith was a sophomore starter at the time and performed valiantly. The Tulsa running game was nonexistent in the game, forcing Smith to air it out 36 times and completing 24. He finished the game with 246 yards, one interception and a one-yard touchdown run in the 31-15 Oklahoma victory. The Sooners were ranked No. 18 at the time and bookmakers were expecting a blowout and didn't even post a line.
Tulsa hung tough with Oklahoma through three quarters heading into the fourth down only 14-9, but the mighty Sooners posted 17 points to close out the game. The other meeting was in Tulsa on a Friday night, similar to this year's matchup, but Oklahoma routed the Hurricane 37-0.

History tells us that Oklahoma has the edge in this one considering the Sooners are 8-1 when they score 28 or more points over the last two seasons. Given Tulsa's troubles on defense, it's almost a given that Oklahoma will score at least 28. Although Tulsa covered against BYU, it is uncommon over the past 15 years for the Hurricane to get the cheese when allowing more than 28 points. Since 1992 Tulsa is 23-64 ATS when allowing that many points.
Oddsmakers opened Oklahoma as a 20-point road favorite over Tulsa, but the public immediately came in on the Sooners pushing that number up to 23. The 'total' hovering around 67 1/2.

Duck Suspended!

The Oregon Mascot was suspended for a beat down of the Houston Cougar Mascot.

Even though the University of Oregon's Duck mascot was suspended almost two weeks ago for roughing up Houston's Cougar mascot at the Sept. 1 football game between the schools, it's just now getting some serious online attention.

Youtube videos have more than 100,000 hits, The Associated Press' footage was the lead story on Yahoo.com for awhile and the blogosphere is abuzz.

Last week, the university called the fight "irresponsible" and said that it violates the athletic department's "Code of ConDUCKt."

Nevertheless, comments are still filling up online forums, many of which reflect the humor of the dust-up. It's hard to tell if there was real rage in the scuffle, or if the mascots just got carried away. Apparently, the Cougar ruffled the Duck's feathers after it copied its trademark pushup.

Fans from both teams are chiming in. One Ducks fan writes, "Too bad our defense isn't that fiesty!"

Houston fans are getting their two cents in also. "...it was soo imature for their mascot to do that...so it makes oregon look bad not HOUSTON!!!" writes one fan at larrybrownsports.com.

Maryland goes against West Virginia in the big game tonight and the Terps will be out for revenge. The Maryland home base will be ready for a nationally televised game against a fourth ranked team in West Virginia. There is no doubt that the offense with two heisman candidates on WV will be tough to deal with, but Maryland has the 7th ranked defense in the country and will be up to the challenge. The WV offense has been suspect and has difficulties with teams with less than impressive records. Maryland may not pull off the upset but they will keep this well within the posted line. West Virginia is just 5-10-1 ATS in the last 16 meetings.

West Virginia has cashed 12 of its last 15 as road favorites and 14 of its last 21 on grass. The Mountaineers are also 11-2 against the spread in their last 13 weekday outings. Maryland has 'covered three of its last four versus West Virginia at home. However, the Terrapins are 5-12 ATS at Bobby Dodd Stadium the past three years and they have failed to cash five straight non-conference tests at home.

TCU at AIR FORCE

TCU has come away with the cheese in its last four meetings with Air Force. However, the Horned Frogs have come up short in 10 of 11 ATS when playing their second road game and they are just 7-11-1 as road favorites. The Falcons have struggled at home, failing to cash 12 of 17 overall and six of eight as dogs. They are 2-10 ATS the week before BYU and 3-10 ATS at home versus quality teams.

7) Wake Forest +8

The ACC takes on Nebraska on the road and this home opener for the deacons should allow them to keep this close. They have a new QB after injuries but he has had all week and will keep this close.

Wake Forest: 7-1 ATS after forcing 3+ turnovers

6) Miami Florida +11

If there one thing you can count on for Oklahoma is falling over when they take on a team out of conference. Miami has cashed three straight against Oklahoma. The Hurricanes are 5-2 in their last seven chances as road dogs and 6-3 ATS against non-conference rivals. Conversely, Oklahoma has slipped at a 10-6-1 clip outside the Big-12 when playing at Norman. Miami will be alive and kicking for this game and ready to keep it close.

5) NC. St +14

When I saw this line jump to two scores I had to jump on it. The wolf pack got hammered but an unknown in Central Florida because they were looking for this one. Ex head coach returns and BC will look to prove him wrong but this game, especially with the big loss in game one is the wolf pack game to win. This comes down to a kick. The Eagles have revenge but are just 1-4 ATS in that spot at home. North Carolina State is 11-4 as road dogs.

4) Boise St -3

Boise St. knows if they are for real these are the games they need to win and they could not have found a better team to play. Washington has floundered in 15 of its last 19 ATS at home and it has dropped nine of 12 at Husky Stadium as underdogs. The Huskies have also flopped at a torrid 14-3-1 clip outside the Pac-10.

SYSTEM PLAY: PLAY ON any game two college underdog or favorite of -10 or less provided they're coming off a 35-point or more straight up victory in their season opener.

Boise State: 34-17 ATS off a combined score of 60+ points
Washington: 26-44 ATS off a road game

3) South Carolina +3

The gamecocks finally get their QB back and are ready to showcase some serious talent and get revenge against Georgia. South Carolina: 8-1 ATS in road games, and will keep it close on the national stage. Spurrier knows how to get his teams ready. Georgian spanked South Carolina last season as three-point road favorites, 18-0. The Gamecocks are 10-1 ATS on the road with revenge against conference rivals. USC has also cashed six of nine as road dogs and six of nine on the highway against quality teams under Coach Steve Spurrier. The Bulldogs have won five straight series meetings. However, they are 5-10-1 as home favorites and 3-7 ATS at home versus conference foes.

2) Mississippi St -5

A big revenge game here for Mississippi St when they head to Tulane. Tulane upset Mississippi State as 11-point road dogs last year, 32-29. The Bulldogs have cashed four straight on the road when in revenge mode. They have also 'covered' seven of nine against the Green Wave. Tulane is 1-6 ATS in its last seven season openers.

1)Arizona St. -15

Arizona State has cashed nine of 12 non-conference battles at home and it is 10-2 as a non-conference home favorites. The Sun Devils are 11-3 ATS in games 1-5 as well. The buffaloes are off a huge win against Colorado St but had to go deep into extra time and won it with offense not defense. The sun devils have a better defense and win the game.

Colorado: 0-6 ATS away off a win
Arizona State: 5-1 ATS as a favorite of 10.5 to 21 points

Rutgers Vs Navy --Friday

Rutgers Vs Navy

Rutgers easily toyed with Buffalo in home opener 38-3, gaining 563 total yards in the rout and will face a much tougher assignment in playing the Naval Academy.

It seems coach Greg Schiano stayed for a reason after many inviting job offers. One of the big pluses is the talent he has recruited returns a number of starters (13) and the replacements will not be a significant drop off. Running back Ray Rice keys the rushing game and looked in Heisman form in his opening effort. Rice rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries. The extra year of experience worked wonders for quarterback Mike Teel, who also added a noteworthy effort as he completed 69.5 percent of his attempts for 328 yards and two scores. The junior signal is now 14-3 and 11-5 against the spread as a starter.

Head coach Paul Johnson has done an absolutely astonishing job at the Naval Academy in five plus years with 38-25 record (33-20-1 ATS) and taken the Midshipmen to four consecutive bowl games. More importantly at this institution, they have won four consecutive Commander-in-Chief Trophies after having not won one in 22 previous years. This year’s task will be a tougher job with just three starters back on defense.

Offensively, a case could be made this might be the most explosive Navy team ever with Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada at quarterback and a fleet of speedy backs to make running game potent. Against Temple in the opener, Kaheaku-Enhada ran the offense like a bon vivant, rushing for 102 yards himself and dishing out on the option for another 259 yards. The Hawaii native won’t dazzle anyone with his throwing, however his speed and decision making are exceptional in Johnson’s option, which might leave him among the greats at Navy.
The Rutgers defense is not big; nonetheless they are aggressive and quick trying to replace four starters from the front seven. The Scarlet Knights will be fed a steady diet of option football, which means they must have the discipline, ironically enough of a military man, to carry out assignment and stop Navy’s prodigious ground attack. Rutgers is 8-3 ATS taking on non-conference foes.

Oregon St. looked great last week as they handled Utah and the Bearcats of Cincinnati had an easy contest and will get the real first test tonight at home in prime time. Teams always look forward to a prime time test at home and they will be ready for this game. The Beavers are just 19-28 ATS in September games and are used to getting off to slow starts and in this spot as they are 35-41 ATS in road games since 1993. The Bearcats are 19-8 ATS at home off of a home game and 51-38 ATS as a home underdog since '93. The beavers lose an All pro guard while the bearcats get back a big defensive end giving them help in beatiing the run tonight and that is the Beaver strong point.

Tonight’s game between the Bowden’s will take center stage in primetime as ESPN is set to televise the tilt between the Tigers and the Seminoles.

Florida St, has announced that Drew Weatherford will get the call as starting QB and won the job due to his consistency with the every down plays. It was stated that Xavier Lee will see some action but his role was not named.

Clemson on the other hand has an unproven at QB for tonight (Cullen Harper) and will rely on a running attack from James Davis to keep the quick front of Florida St off of his new QB. Both defenses will be poised to make some noise tonight. The Seminoles are chocked full of NFL prospects on defense that are fast and hard hitting. Clemson counters with a solid line backing core led by Nick Watson and Anthony Waters.

Memorial Stadium is not an easy place to play and you can be assured the crowd will be loud and ready to support the home team. This is not good news for Florida St because they are just 1-6 ATS at Clemson and 16-15 ATS as road favorites. Terry Bowden always finds a way to get his team fired up to go against his father and that is proven in the 3-1 SU and ATS mark in the last four meetings.

I look for more of the same tonight with a wild and rowdy crowd! Clemson is 6-0 ATS in its last 6 as an underdog and they will cash in again tonight!

There are two favorites that I believe the public have pumped up due to emotion and preseason rankings and both of them are plays today.

East Carolina +28

There is no doubt that the tragedy at VT was devastating and this campus, city, and country have gathered behind them to embrace the sadness and celebrate the recovery. We will prevail, we are Virginia Tech are some of the greatest words I will hear all week. Let’s talk football. If the hokies have a question mark it’s with the QB, and that goes for East Carolina who had a suspension for a DWI and will not have a starting QB. This game will be decided by defense and special teams. ECU has better special teams play than VT, don’t be stunned it’s the truth. They have a great FG kicker and in a game decided by defense a FG kicker is the difference and ECU has the edge. Look for a strong rushing attack and a defensive showing by ECU and VT will prevail but it will be close.

Western Michigan +23.5

There is not another team that is hyped higher than West Virginia and the Mountaineers. The hype is deserved with two Heisman candidates and a sift schedule they can go along ay. Western Michigan has other plans and this kind of television exposure will work wonders if they can make a good impression and that will come from the offense. The offense is deep and solid and will have enough fire power to keep this close.

Two college football teams with a lot to prove meet on Friday night in Syracuse as the Orange host the Washington Huskies. It will be the first ever Friday night game in the Carrier Dome. "You can feel festivity in the air about the season," Syracuse head coach Greg Robinson. "I look forward to the day when that dome is rockin'." It has not happened with Robinson on the sideline as Syracuse is a poor 5-18 with him at the helm. SBG Global reports that early betting has the public taking the favored Washington on the Road.

Things are not much better for Washington with Tyrone Willingham at the controls. He is 7-16 at Washington and has definitely not delivered as head coach. Many people think that Washington has the toughest schedule in college football this season so things may not get any better for the Huskies in 2007. After opening at Syracuse, the Huskies will play six teams ranked in the preseason AP Top 25, including #1 USC. The Huskies will be starting redshirt freshman quarterback Jake Locker against Syracuse. He is a highly recruited player that is Washington is hoping will turn the program around. "I have expectations for myself. I've set goals, things I want to accomplish, and I'm going to work hard to achieve that," Locker said. "We'll see what happens on Friday night."

Syracuse also starts a new quarterback in Andrew Robinson. "You always have a little bit of nerves going out there and dropping back," Robinson said. "But the more comfortable you get the less nervous you get. It's going to be fun. The dome's going to be rocking."

It's been a long time since the Carrier Dome was sold out. The last time was in 2000 when Miami was in town. It is unlikely the Carrier Dome will get anywhere near that many fans on Friday. "It's important to win any game, and everybody that plays football or watches football knows home games are important," said Syracuse defensive end Jameel McClain, "We're going to go out there and fight our hardest."

The Huskies are 4-14 in their last 18 games on turf. Syracuse is 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall. Syracuse is 5-1 ATS in its last 6 games at home.

Line Mistake

In week one of the college football season the lines makers have already dropped the ball and have posted a line that is way off and has already moved in an attempt to correct it.

Ball St. -4.5

I have seen lower than five already at several sportsboooks so make sure to look around. Miami of Ohio received early money but people were betting off of last year’s Miami Ohio team and the truth is they are a completely other team this year and Ball St. is better, and much better in fact. It is opening night which is always big at home but they are playing in a renovated stadium just another reason to get the team and the crowd fired up.
Miami OH is 1-5 ATS as an underdog of 3.5 to 10 points and Ball State is 11-5 ATS vs. conference opponents making this a great situation to back the Cardinals. Nate Davis is just a sophomore QB but he will turn heads in this game and put his name on the map. Ball St. Beats Miami soundly tonight and covers this number easily.

As I mentioned here two weeks ago, the rules have changed in the offseason in a way that will favor the powerhouses and hurt lesser teams. After a one-year experiment that shrunk college games, the clock will run much more like it did back in 2005. Remember to put those points back on the board when outlining expectations for games in 2007. And remember that moving kickoffs back to the 30-yard line will help squads that have superior special teams. I won't restate everything from that prior article. Just remember to include those factors when handicapping!

Remember that defenses are ahead of offenses at the beginning of a college season. It didn't used to be this dramatic, but in recent years we've seen several offenses really struggle early on. Defenses are much more aggressive than they used to be. If you've got a new quarterback, and a new running back in charge of picking up blitzes, your offense will have trouble in the first few games of the season. Last year's timing changes exacerbated this element, leading to some very low scoring openers. Remember when both Temple/Buffalo and Miami of Ohio/Northwestern were scoreless at the half on the first night of action? This year's rules adjustments will just be giving some teams more plays to flounder!

Make note of all the successful teams from last year that lost their starting quarterbacks. There's a slew of them! The worst thing you can do early in a season is to bet off last year's expectations. Notre Dame is going to look like a whole different team this year. The teams that played in the BCS championship game, Florida and Ohio State, both have new quarterbacks. Strong finisher LSU does as well. Make the new quarterbacks earn your respect on the field before investing in them.

Make note of all bowl caliber teams who return most of their offenses. There are actually some nice second tier teams who are poised to hit the ground running in 2007 because they've got so many starters back. They'll be able to handle blitzes out of the gate. And, they'll be eager to make even more headlines this year than they did last season. The worst favorites to take will be last year's powers that lost quarterbacks. The best favorites to take will be these second tier teams who return experience in the right spots. Heck, some of these guys will be dogs at least once early on. Be on the lookout for upset specials.

Catch up on injuries and suspensions! If you did a lot of research based on information in those newsstand publications that came out over the summer, you may not be aware that many top players have since been injured or suspended. The last thing you want to do is bet on a game, then find out when the telecast starts that your star running back isn't going to play…and everyone BUT you seemed to know about it! Check internet sites for reports on injuries and suspensions. Also be aware that a few returning starting quarterbacks lost their starting jobs within the last couple of weeks during late summer practices. You'd hate to bet against a team because the QB was bad last year, only to find out that a hotshot recruit is ready to turn the program around.

Finally, remember that the oddsmakers are behind the eight-ball a bit because of the rules adjustments. This year more than ever, you should be looking at the early games Thursday, Friday, and Saturday morning to get a feel for what football in 2007 is going to look like. Then you can take advantage in later starts Saturday afternoon and evening. Really, before last year, you could pretty much handicap September football with the same old basics. The rules changes in 2006 caught Vegas napping. Unders were a STEAL for about a month because scoring dropped so much. And, there were many great underdog plays because the games had shrunk. Favorites didn't have time to express their superiority in a way that matched the spreads. The tinkering and re-tinkering with the clock and kickoffs throws a monkey wrench into the line making process. If you can read the tea leaves before they do, you'll be able to take advantage for most of the month in my opinion.

Look into the polls before you wager

The preseason rankings are out and according to the soothsayers and prognosticators over at The Associated Press offices, the BCS might as well call FedEx and ship their crystal football off to L.A. right now.

The USC Trojans are ranked No. 1 in the AP preseason poll for the third time in the last four years. There’s so much hype over this team, one overzealous Pac-10 coach even went so far as to call this edition of the Trojans, “the best college football team of all time.”

Wow. No wonder the Vegas bookmakers deemed it necessary to take 45 points from USC in their season-opener against the Idaho Vandals.

Well, it might also have something to do with the ugly memory of the Vandals’ 46-point loss to the Washington State Cougars – a Pac-10 team with decidedly less firepower than Southern Cal – in the early days of last season.

But we’ve heard the hype before. The last time the Trojans were ranked No. 1 (2005) they finished the season undefeated, but at the sportsbook, they were only a .500 team, going 6-6 against the spread (ATS) that year.

Which begs the question: should bettors pay any attention to all the hubbub and hoopla that comes with the buildup to the NCAA football season?

Judging by the results in recent years the answer is: yes and no.

How’s that for convoluted? If you take a look at the historical preseason rankings and the correlating ATS results, it might make more sense.

Of course, you can’t paint every team that has been selected No. 1 in the last 10 preseason polls with the same brush. Every team is different and not all will live up to the great expectations or prove capable of dealing with the constant pressure of being on top of the NCAA mountain, but you can use the results as a guide as to how the oddsmakers treat the No. 1 team.

The top ranking means a big rep and usually – big handicaps.

As you can see from the results, that doesn’t always pose a problem for these squads. Last year the Ohio State Buckeyes went 9-3 ATS and made a pile of money for some of their backers, despite double-digit pointspreads almost every week.

But bettors must be careful in such situations because over the last 10 years, five top-ranked preseason favorites have posted losing seasons against the spread. Overall, these highly touted teams have gone 63-60 ATS since the 1997-1998 season, which isn’t exactly convincing one way or the other.

This year’s Trojans will have their work cut out for them, especially if oddsmakers continue to post five, six and even seven-touchdown handicaps on their games.

The last two years in which the Trojans were No. 1 on the preseason AP Poll, the team went on to a combined 14-12 ATS record, but on both occasions, they did not have good starts to the season at the sportsbook. In 2004 (a season in which the USC racked up big money with an 8-5 ATS record) they went 2-3 versus the number in their first five games. The next year, they barely managed to earn a profitable start with a 3-2 start to the season.

Overall, No. 1 preseason teams have gone 27-22 in their opening stretch of the schedule over the last 10 years.

If you’re looking for a better historical bet, you might want to look at the LSU Tigers this year because the No. 2 preseason team has gone a combined 68-56 over the last 10 years.

The No. 3 team has been on the other end of the spectrum, disappointing supporters with a 49-70-1 showing over the last decade. Bettors who put any weight on historical statistics will avoid the West Virginia Mountaineers this year because only two No. 3 preseason selections have finished with a better than .500 ATS season over the last decade.
